STEM Lab requires numerous hands-on learning tools, devices, and supplies to be successful. Reaching approximately 180 students in our school will make this endeavor a truly worthwhile one. The donations for materials and supplies will be a great investment in the future of our children.
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM education is the practice of using these academic disciplines to challenge students to think critically by problem-solving, analyzing, evaluating, and looking for more than one way to solve a problem. It not only encourages higher order thinking skills but it connects to the regular classroom instruction by making it relevant and understandable.
Pike Liberal Arts School will begin implementing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Lab for the 2022-23 school year for grades 1-6. STEM Lab will focus on a student-centered environment with hands-on learning encouraging creativity, curiosity, problem-solving, and critical thinking in these academic areas. Students will actively engage in real world challenges that will allow for multiple ways to solve a problem while also encouraging cooperative and positive social interactions. STEM activities allow students to make mistakes in a safe environment and learn from them by evaluating and analyzing what went wrong and how it could be fixed, as well as how to improve upon a successful idea.
STEM supports students in becoming leaders in their own learning in a non-traditional academic environment. STEM is a wonderful tool for encouraging students to appreciate and foster a love of learning in science, technology, engineering, and math.
