PLAS Names New Volleyball Coaches


Pike Liberal Arts School is proud to announce that Lana Johnson has been hired to lead the varsity volleyball program. Mallory Floyd who coached both teams last season will remain the head junior varsity coach next season.

Lana Johnson has been teaching and coaching athletics since 2006. Currently, she is a full-time Lecturer at Troy University within the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotions where she teaches and/or advises Physical Education, Health Education and Exercise Science students.

Coach Johnson, who holds a master’s degree in Physical Education, began her coaching career in 2006 at Pike County High School as head coach for track and field and volleyball; assistant coach for basketball and softball. Since teaching at the university level over the past decade, Johnson has continued to coach volleyball at the high school level as an assistant coach at Charles Henderson High School.

Coach Johnson’s mission as a coach has been to develop athletes of character and integrity within a culture of excellence. It is not uncommon to see Lana and her team members and students regularly serving the community through the Montgomery Food Bank’s Food Distribution here in Troy. Johnson has lived in Troy with her husband Jerry since 2000. They have two children - Nikki (Johnson) Hensley and Aaron Johnson. Lana and her husband are fully engaged members at Bush Baptist Church and together they lead a family group in their church called “Momentum”.
